Understanding Your Throat Chakra

Our last Understanding Your Chakras class, we learned about the Vissudha (Throat) Chakra!

Take a look at some of the things we went over below:

  • Purpose: Communication / Self-expression of feelings / Speaking the truth / Holding secrets
  • Location: Center of neck/throat
  • Color: Blue (Sky Blue)
  • Key Issues: Learning to express freely the balance between your personal will (personality) and your higher will (spiritual)
  • Inner Aspect: The expression of your will
  • Sound: G / Ehm
  • Element: Ether / Sound
  • Archangel: Michael
  • Glands: Thyroid and Parathyroid
  • Virtue: Integrity, faith, and self-knowledge
  • Vice: Lying, gossiping, inability to express negative feelings/thoughts/opinions

We also learned about what happens in and outside of the body when the Visuddha chakra is balancedunbalanccedunderactive, and overactive.

When the throat chakra is balanced you may feel:

  • Good listener
  • Communicates easily/clearly
  • Lives creatively
  • Speaks with confidence
  • Sings well
  • Expresses self freely
  • Comfortable with body language
  • Good at offering people sound advice

When the throat chakra is unbalanced you may feel:

  • Problems with nasal area, teeth, or gums
  • Irritated sinuses
  • Jaw pain/TMJ
  • Disorders or ears, voice, neck
  • Lack of creative expression
  • Indecisiveness
  • Unwillingness to accept criticism

When the throat chakra is underactive you may feel:

  • Suppressed feelings
  • Fear of expression
  • Fear of offending others
  • Shyness/weak voice
  • Poor rhythm
  • Not being able to be honest with yourself
  • Commonly being misinterpreted or misunderstood

When the throat chakra is overactive you may feel:

  • Excess talking
  • Stuttering
  • Inability to listen
  • Gossiping
  • Loud or dominating voice
  • Tendency to interrupt
  • Over-opinionated
  • Critical
  • Bossy

Crystals to use for the heart chakra:

  • Angelite
  • Aquamarine
  • Amazonite
  • Blue Topaz
  • Blue Turquoise

Essential Oils for the throat chakra:

  • Eucalyptus
  • Geranium
  • Cypress
  • Lavender
  • Tea tree
  • Peppermint

We also learned that the throat chakra is linked to the aura through the  Etheric Body. This layer of the body is the “template” for your physical body in the astral plane… such as, when a person experiences “astral projection” as if they are walking around in an invisible (to others) form of their physical body.

Foods for the sacral chakra:

  • Blueberries
  • Plums
  • Blackberries
  • Kiwi
  • Apricots
  • Liquids/fruit juice/herb teas

You can even do the plough pose, fish pose, bridge pose and forward fold yoga poses to help balance the throat chakra.

Affirmations for the throat chakra:

“I express my truth.”

“I listen to others without judgment.”

“I am authentic.”

“I speak!”

“I listen!”

“I express!”

“I listen to my inner voice.”

“I am speaking clearly and truthfully with ease and grace.”
